Yoga Therapy for Healing
According to the International Association of Yoga Therapists, "Yoga therapy is the specific application of yoga tools—postures/exercises, breathwork, meditation techniques, and more—to address an individual’s physical, mental, and emotional needs."
Yoga Therapy methods are based on principles of Yoga, research data, and the experience of Yoga Therapists. It’s an individualized approach that takes your needs and capabilities into account, with the goal of helping you create a personal toolbox to help you gain ease in your body and resilience for dealing with the stresses of life.
What to expect
All the meetings are private (one-on-one) online sessions over Zoom.
1a) For our very first session, we'll go over the intake form you filled out to discuss what your goals are during the time we have together, as well as make note of any injuries, pain points, or other conditions to be aware of.
1b) If this is a continuation, we'll do a brief check-in to see how you are feeling that day and discuss any items since our last meeting. Our session will be informed by whatever comes up in our conversation.
2) Brief centering practice
3) The bulk of the practice can cover anything from learning new breathing techniques, practicing movements to increase mobility and strength, to discussion of mental/emotional strategies for dealing with upcoming tests/scans/doctor visits. We may or may not plan "homework" to practice the techniques learned in the session.
4) Ending with a yoga nidra or other deep relaxation technique.

Testimonial
"From the beginning, Bernadette took a compassionate and sensitive approach to design and build a yoga practice that would help me to restructure my breathing patterns; practice body awareness; regulate my nervous system; use strengthening and stretching poses; use posture correction exercises, and positions that foster bone strength as osteoporosis protection.
At each session Bernadette made a point of checking in to hear how I was doing, what feelings and body mind effects were current in my life that day, and if I had any specific requests for things to work on. She was very observant and attendant of my positions and always offered to help me adjust to a better or more comfortable alignment. As our work progressed, I began to notice a marked improvement in my outlook, my daily attitude, and my overall focus on life. They all became more and more positive and hopeful.
Today I feel physically stronger, more mentally and emotionally resilient to face the everyday challenges of recovering from the effects of the cancer experience. I attribute all of these changes directly to the expert care and attention that I received from Bernadette. She guided me through a dark tunnel of fear and body restriction to a life changing openness to the clear possibility of greater health and wellness. I highly recommend Bernadette as an expert, congenial, and dedicated Yoga Therapist." ~Teri
